BTC Economy
El Salvador recently made history with its law confirming BTC as legal tender. There is already a fully functioning BTC economy in Playa El Zonte, El Salvador. From hotels to shaved ice carts, to street side vegetable and pupusa vendors, everyone accepts and pays for services in BTC because there is no easy access to cash. The program, spearheaded by the Bitcoin Beach initiative and supported by Strike’s Zap lightning network, has been widely adapted by the community with BTC being the main mode of transaction in the area.
Observe it in action
Our BTC tourism program enables early adapters and those interested in learning more about the day to day utility of BTC, whether its as a mode of transaction, store of wealth, or method for tracking sales, and its impact on the financial freedom of the historically underserviced beach communities to see the real time development of the world’s first circular bitcoin economy.
The program includes discussions with local micro-vendors, Q&A session with larger businesses working through government reporting and sales tracking processes, a visit to the BTC ATM, and observation of locals using BTC as a normal part of their daily life.
